Gulfton Home Community is a 501(C3) non-profit organization created in 2021, based on the tradition of San Mateo Episcopal Church at Gulfton/Sharpstown. This Church has been working for more than 40 years in our vulnerable neighborhood attending the social and economic needs of the community. Gulfton/Sharpstown is a culturally diverse community and the majority of our neighbors speak Spanish at home. We provide classes in art, theater, English, computer and citizenship. In the area of health, we created the program “Chau Diabetes” that includes the CDC diabetes prevention program, the podcast “Salud y Comunidad” and support groups in the neighborhood lead by our Community Health workers who are members of the community. We are also working in the area of maternal health with faculty from Baylor College of Medicine.
